The River Wear Tour in 2018 took place at Sunderland on Saturday 28 July. This was
the fourth occasion this annual event for stable coxed boats had been run. Organised
by City of Sunderland Rowing Club it covered a distance of approximately 20km of
the tidal River Wear, starting and finishing at South Hylton, where participants
were able to enjoy a post-event BBQ.
Because of the tide timings this year (low tide
is at 10.55am) there was be a change to the usual plan. The tour set off downstream,
going as far as the Glass Centre, then returned upstream with the tide, and continued
to Cox Green, before returning downstream again to finish at South Hylton. There
was an opportunity to land and have a short break or swap crews at South Hylton at
the halfway point.
Approximate timings were: Registration at 11.00am Boating at 12.30pm Tour commenced
The cost in 2018 was £8.50 per seat (including coxes). This included food and a drink
after the tour. Entries were returnable to Sarah Hodge at City of Sunderland RC firstname.lastname@example.org.
