In the women’s category, there was a more even spread of wins, with only Tyney Temp-Oar winning all four of their races. Their newbie colleagues Tyneamite got three and very nearly four wins. So the table after Tyne now looks a two horse race going in to Durham:

Tyne - 7 September 2014

We visited Tyne Rowing Club for Round 7 on 7 September. It was a sculling splash and dash event and ran as direct competition in the spectator stakes with the Great North Run. We didn’t get the Red Arrows overhead, but it was pretty exciting anyway.

Thanks to Tyne RC for their hospitality - the food was up to its usual very high standard - and to Tyne United also, for the loan of their boats and blades.

DARC’n’Dandy putting on a finishing push

There was excellent competition as usual with nine open crews and seven women’s crews. A number of familiar names were missing but we had two new crews entering, both from Tyne’s summer L2R intake.

In the open category, three crews did well and gained maximum (four) wins: DARC’n’Dandy, Tyne Young Boys and newcomers Tyneados. Previous league leaders DARC Dynasaurs won only two this time round and in addition were on half points due to team changes. So the open league table now sees a very close spread of four teams at the top, all with a chance of winning at the final round:
