LDS series background

The Northern Rowing Council, with the help of host clubs, runs the LDS (Long Distance Sculling) series every autumn. In 2016 we had six events over six consecutive weekends, as listed below. All ran in generally  very  good conditions. Many  thanks to our host clubs and to the army of volunteer helpers.

Coordinator for the series in 2016 (and hopefully 2017) was Sarah Smith; she can be contacted by email at sarahwilson893@gmail.com or on 01609 882000.  Any problems with this page, please email Colin Percy at  colin.percy@gmail.com.  See the 2015 LDS archive page here.

How the results were calculated

All finishing crews scored points for their Club in each Long Distance Sculling series head race. A simple points system applied based on finishing position of each crew as follows:-

A point awarded for every boat beaten by boat class within your category, grouped for this purpose as follows:

*  Seniors as Elite, IM1 / IM2 (together), IM3, Novice;
*  Juniors in three groups: J18 / J17, J16 / J15, J14 / J13;
*  Masters grouped all together taking into account handicapped times.

Points gained in composite crews were split between clubs. The prizes will be presented at the Northern Rowing Council’s Annual General Meeting on 5 December 2016 at DARC.

2016 programme

The LDS series each year has events for sculling only - singles, doubles and quads (and octs where indicated on the poster), and are for all age groups and categories. There are usually associated SBH (Small Boats Head) events with sweep on four of the six days - see below for 2016. There are usually limits on total entries for some events. Limits per event in 2016 were: Wansbeck 100, Berwick 70, Tyne 140, South Hylton 100 and Durham 120. Entries on BROE usually close at the latest at 7.00pm on the Saturday, one week before the event.
